Specialist Learning Class at St. Catherine’s for the Strabane Area

28th Feb 2022

We are truly delighted that the Education Authority has funded a specialist learning centre for the Strabane Area here in our own school. The purpose of the centre is that children who experience challenges to their learning, have a statement of educational need, meets specific criteria for this type of learning support and are in the age range of Years 1-4 can avail of specialist teaching support. This is the only one of its kind in the Strabane District Area. There is a teacher and a full time classroom assistant in the learning centre. It is specially equipped with a high level of resources, individual work stations, sensory equipment and much more. It is a very inclusive environment for pupils with loads of opportunity for children to mix in with pupils in their respective year groups also. It has been funded for this year initially to see how it would go! We want it to be permanent as it is no less than our little pupils deserve. You will receive a letter via email and text link (this week) to ask you to support making this permanent. You can do this by clicking on the link in the letter which takes you to a short questionnaire with five questions on it. Regardless of whether you have a child in the centre or not, please support this facility if you can so that this will be made permanent for all children in the future who can avail of better support with their educational journey! If you have any queries at all please do not hesitate to contact Principal Mrs Wilders or Vice Principal / Head of Learning Support. Thank you in advance for standing with us on this!
